Therefore, many of the hotels in Stockholm choose to reduce their rates at this time of the year and you can expect whopping discounts of up to 50 percent. Where to Stay

In general, the high standard of accommodation in Stockholm does tend to come at a price, although weekend rates (Friday to Sunday) are usually cheaper. It is quite usual that hotels start to fill up quickly by late afternoon, and so you should always try to arrive early or try to reserve your room in advance. May can also be an especially busy month in Stockholm, when many groups from Swedish schools regularly choose to visit the country's capital city.

The city's appealing Gamla Stan area is a particularly atmospheric part of Stockholm and contains a number of excellent hotels, right in the heart of the historic Old Town, although those on a tight budget will probably find these choices out of their reach. Popular mid-range options include the Lady Hamilton, Lord Nelson and the Victory hotels, while the nearby Mälardrottningen Hotel is actually one of the biggest motor yachts in existence and provides comfortable accommodation within its well-appointed cabins.

For upscale hotels, Stockholm's Ostermalm is the place to stay and boasts a number of excellent hotels, although some cheaper lodging options do exist here, such as the Backpackers Inn on Banérgatan and the historic Ostra Reals Vandrarhem Hotel on Karlavägen, which was actually once a school building many years ago. The Stockholm Lydmar Hotel offers top-end, trendy accommodation, with regular live music and stylish guest rooms.

Nearby and on the island of Djurgarden, the Scandic Hotel Hasselbacken enjoys one of the most scenic settings in Stockholm and boasts elevated views across the cityscape and the Gröna Luna amusement park.
